OK, I dug through my notes last night and found the following: - boxers get a form of dilated cardiomyopathy due to enlargment of the heart ventricles - Dobermans get a unique version of cariodmyopathy all of their own - the type seen in gsps is called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and, as compared to the frequency we see the associated types of cardiomyopathy in Dobermans and Boxers, is relatively rare - note that doesn't mean it isn't important just that it isn't all that common - hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a result of the thickening of the ventricle walls of heart muscle - the end result is the same as it is for the Boxer but the cause is entirely different The cardiologist we had in is a Dr Mike O'Grady from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) who is very well known for his work with Dobermans and the holter program in particular although my all breed club is full of Boxer folks and they seem pretty familiar with his work too.
