Does anyone know about these boots:
Rocky Arctic BearClaw 3D 10" Waterproof ?
I am sure they are of very good quality, warm and comfortable. What I´d like to know about is how the sole perform on ice and snow - if they are slippery or if they are made of such kind of rubber that has good friction on wet rock, ice and snow.
It is, as you of course understand, of no use to ask the salesman or manufacturer
) The task of making a good wintersole with a lot of grip on ice and that also last many years, is very difficult. It use to be either the one or the other but rarely both.
Best wishes!

I had some "Rockies" with a take out liner that were real warm, I used them for three or four years before they came apart. Didn't get in much Ice in north texas but they were warm. They came from cabela's. Sorry I can't be more help. If they came apart after 3 - 4 years they might be of the same quality as the Merrel boots. They are warm and comfortable and have a good grip on ice and snow but they will not last very long since the soft sole falls of. Right now I have a pair of Chevalier boots - wonderfully comfortbale, will last for ever and they will break your leg or back on the first spot of ice. I also have a pair of the old style Lundhags leather boots. They will also last for ever but they are not that comfortbale unless you choose the right woolen socks and the will not slip but it takes 10 minutes to get them on your feets properly so I use them only when I get really "serious"
) I am looking for the Merrel type boots but with soles that last.
Today we have propably the first really sunny day in november, its been raining almost every day and there has been dark clouds all the time. Terrible weather but normal for november in our part of the world.
So today we will give Sunnie the first contact with put out partridge. She can do what she pleases with them at this stage and I will try to get it on a video tape. That could be transformed into a windows media file and hopefully there is room on our website for a few minutes of it.
We will soon see what happens.

Torsti, about the only solution to glare ice or hard, polished wet snow we've found is spikes. 2 - 3" fresh, dry snow on top of ice needs spikes that go down to the ice (crampons) I don't have any. We use rubber slip on devices with short carbide spike inserts. Some folks here drill the soles of their boots and put automobile ice studs in the holes. I haven't had slipping trouble on any snow surface where the foot penetrates the snow surface at least a little. Many winters we have way too much wet ice! The wrmest boots I've used in the winter all have insulating liners of some sort. For years I wore the felt lined Sorels. Last winter Sandy bought me a pair of Baffin Control boots which are very warm.
