Hi i am new to the forum and have been looking at GSP's for a while now. I am planing on using a pair for hunting in FL. The problem is it is hard to find breeders in FL. Does anyone know of any good breeders in FL. |

Thanks so much for the responses hopefully something will come from it. They seem kind of hard to find down here. I have seen alot out of AL and GA but only a few out of FL |

| Of course, depending on where in FL you are, getting one from south GA may be an option. |

If you are looking for hunting dogs then I wouldn't start with show breeders.
If you are into versatile hunting you can check out:

| Pixie I have to disagree on show breeders. I am not even sure what that statement means. In addition to breeding nice conformation dogs with health clearances, many hunt their dogs too. Mine come from a breeder that hunts first and shows second. I found her through the local GSP clubs. I am planning on breeding my girl (that is focused on obedience) and I consider my dogs to all be good hunting stock even though I only use my boy for the hunt stuff. The lines are strong hunting lines and frankly I have to pick and choose what I do with each of my dogs. The most important thing is that you buy your dog from a reputable breeder who gets health clearances and stands behind their dogs. |

Madrone is the exception to the rule...I would go with good field lines if you want a field dog...Sorry to disagree We have a couple of good litters planned early spring, I know, we are in Ga. But, can ship anywhere if someone does not want to take a drive |

One important aspect of buying a pup is to buy from a breeder who does with the parents what you want to do with your pup,and they can prove it. I am always saying, it is very difficult to breed a litter of GSPs that does not have a nose or point. But, this can only be the low end of a standard a hunting dog is held to. |

Brenda - Ok, so I guess I was lucky with Madrone, but the point is I found Molly and Mark via the clubs and the show ring, and they do both with their dogs. By the way, Brenda has some great dogs if you want a nice pup. Of course I am prejudice because I have a male (my boy Ringo) from Fritz. |

I think Bev was probably on the right track initially with her referral to the three Florida GSP clubs. Better that than starting a breeder war...There are several reputable breeders who are in Florida...Janet Evans certainly has some nice stuff out that is not totally show lines, Todd Knouff has good field/dual lines...more than one. Personally, I'd be more inclined to seek out a breeder with Dual lines than field or show but then, I too am prejudiced.. Phyllis and the Singltrak Furtribe |
