From: gspdoo@aol.com Subject: [gsp-l] CD testing via frozen semenTo: gsp-l@web.whc.netCc: mariahgsps@aol.comDate: Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 4:00 PM This is a process I am exploring right now. Next spring I will be using frozen semen from the litter brother to my BIS/HOF Lucy who was also born in 1988, and was only able to be OFA'd for hips (Excellent) before he was killed in a hunting accident. (He is Ch. Moraine's All American Treff). I am exploring how to use some of the semen to test for the two genetic tests we now have available -- CD and vW -- I figured I'd do what I can since he will never have any of the others we commonly do. The bitch is 3rd generation CD cleared (just sent her swabs into Optigen last week) -- which means she is (being) cleared by testing also, as her mother was cleared by parentage. She is Ch. Mariah BDN Be Still My Heart JH So the resulting puppies will all be eligible to be cleared by parentage. I am particularly going to ask if they can store the DNA from the frozen semen (the optigen site says they will only store DNA from a blood sample) so that it would be available to be used for any other genetic tests that come along. I'll let everyone know what I find out.
