dunno, vet said she feels it was something "new" she came in contact with and that it was highly likely it was some type of grass pollen in the woods, then exacerbated by the mowing grass in the yard. I don't know if it is worth testing for at this point or waiting to see if she ever has another reaction after being in the woods again. Her temp was up a bit too, but that could have been the stress of itching and the vets office. It was 103.5. Vet said the shots could make her sleepy and she's out cold in her crate LOL.
I make my own laundry soap because the perfumes in the store bought brands break Ian (grandson) out so mine is made with borax, arm & hammer washing soda and a bar of ivory soap, or fels naptha soap. Not saying it couldn't be that though.
Who the heck knows! The vet said if it happens again after she's been in the woods she will give me an epi pen because with repeat exposure to whatever it is she could potentially experience breathing issues and its' best to be prepared. Nothing is ever simple.

I have been thinking about this too. Belle developed a rash all over that got progressively worse. The vet said allergies to something like grass or ragweed, neither of which I have in my back yard. I really dug into it and did some tracking of when the rash/hives would get worse and it never seemed to correlate to any one thing. I finally decided to go on the theory that it might be a food allergy and on a whim removed the beef from her diet (I had a cocker a long time ago that was allergic to beef), well low and behold her skin problems and her eye mattering problems have disappeared. So, you might think long and hard about what you are feeding too. I know just another thing to think about. Belle get turkey, chicken, venison and lamb. I also tried bison and she is ok with that too. Beef is the culprit for her. It had started making her mouth swell and I thought maybe ants were getting on one of her bones and stinging her. Nope it was a beef bone.

Good luck with Xara. I hope this was a one time anomaly and you don't see it again.

I was traveling for work yesterday, and in the afternoon I got a few text updates from my husband saying that he was at the dog park with Cooper, who was having a ball running off-leash through the woods and splashing in the creek. While I was waiting for my plane to takeoff I got a call from my husband saying that shortly after he got home with the dog he noticed that Cooper was acting strange. He ended up vomitting dirty water from the creek, so David took him outside while he cleaned up. When get got back outside Cooper was rubbing his face in the grass. David noticed hives on his face (his eyes were practically swollen shut!), which had spread across his whole body by the time he got him into the car.

Much like Mel B & Xara, Coop got a shot of benadryl and a shot of prednisone from our local after-hours vet hospital. The shots did the trick. The hives cleared up right away. There was still some swelling around the eyes when I came home, but he seemed to be feeling fine otherwise. Thankfully today he is no worse for the wear.

He must have eaten something nasty while running through the woods/trails because my husband didn't feed or give him anything unusual. Thankfully The Coop is a healthy pup and is back to his usual self. :-)
