Last night about 2:30 AM Xara started growling in her crate. I yelled to her to hush and tried to go back to sleep.  She kept it up and kept it up and then it turned into this growling/yapping/barking thing that would not stop.

I admit, I was a bit ticked off at being interupted in my sleep and got up to yell at her and make her lay down and be quiet.  BUT,,,when I went into the living room I see the lights on in my neighbors car across the street and someone (who was NOT my neighbor) taking things out of the car.  I turned on my porch light and the person took off like a bat out of hell.  I called my neighbor and woke her up to tell her someone was in her car.

Seems we had a rash of car break in's last night in the neighborhood and little Miss Xara was the ONLY dog in the house who alerted to something not being right outside!!! My other dogs were snoring away and never so much as batted an eye lash through the whole thing, they are so used to noises outside they never paid any attention.

Xara has just recently started showing her "guard dog" side and barking at strange noises and objects/shadows outside at night. It's been rather funny, and rather annoying too (she thinks the cars on the parkway through the woods should NOT be there at night and barks her fool head off at them when I let her out and she can see the headlights through the trees. The parkway is quite a few miles away but the headlights can be seen in the distance from my yard).

Xara wins the prize for preventing my neighbors car from being ransacked or stolen last night.  GOOD GIRL ZOOBY!

Good girl Xara! Murf did that once (except we didn't pay attention!) and it was my boyfriend's car being ransacked!! We just kept telling him to be quiet... shame on us... we know better now! ;)

the funny part is the neighbor has two dogs also, a cocker and a doxie and neither of her dogs barked either. And that doxie doesn't miss much going on in the neighborhood.

Found out this afternoon this person, or group (we aren't sure) hit 6 cars on the street. Didn't do anything more than take loose change, and misc. items. Sounds like teenagers to me looking for money and sellable items. None of the cars had radio's taken, etc. but one person is a nurse and they did take some of her home health care items out of the bags in her car. They also took her spare set of keys she had in the console that she had left in there. Took the keys but not the car. She has to have her car totally re-keyed now.

All they'd find in mine is dog crates, bird cages and car seats LOL

Way to guard Xara and protect your neighborhood. All the dogs are guards and barkers in our neighborhood. One barking dog triggers the others to bark. Needless to say, no one has been broken into or robbed in our neighborhood. Rocky has the deepest guardy bark, he sounds like he is 150 lb massive breed dog hearing him behind closed doors. Made me jump the first time I heard him. Since adopting Rocky, I don't even have to answer the door if I don't want to. LOL
