MoJo went home last night, Dolly went home last weekend, Sieggie maybe this weekend.....and got lookers at Ruby now too. Out, out, out! We'll be able to pull in one of the females needing our help this weekend, get her in for vet work, and start a new year all over again.
Have several home visits happening tomorrow....so off I go....Happy New year all!

| MoJo and Dolly are home, Callie is in, Lars (our puppy) is staying with his foster family, who have been looking. He goes to the vet Friday for the works. Now to find a quick grab for one other female. Duke's potential adopter home visit got cancelled cuz of sickness in the family. But they still want him, if all checks out ok. Pretty soon, we'll be back to no dogs available, and when/if that happens, I'll find out if IL or MN rescues need help and go poaching. I have so many adopters looking for dogs! Which is a good thing, and you won't find me complaining! Hope it's gonna be a GREAT new year! |

Yeah, wouldn't that be nice? I think of him every night when I go to bed and my dogs are tucked warmly in bed. Finding him is a full time job, wish I could afford the luxury. Hey? Did someone from this forum send me a stack of VCR tapes on training and doggie CPR? No return address, but thanks whoever....they are making the "rounds" now. I get Lars puppy tonight, his vet appt is in AM, and I'm his ride. So should be fun having a puppy for a night. Hope he does not scare Miracle off. I have not met Lars yet. Still need one foster home for Lady by the weekend, no luck so far. Urgh. |

Lisa--
Are you okay up there? Been reading about the twisters in the Kenosha area. Isn't that near the Everett sitings?
We've got storms coming through the South tonight. Doggies don't like storms
Doggies will be sleeping in the bed

| Yes, all ok. Yes, in area Everett is hiding in. He is VERY afraid of storms so if he's still in that area, you can bet he was hunkered in tight somewhere. A tornado in Jan!??? Was very strange. Warm, almost all our snow is melted. Skies were black, lightening over Lake Michigan. Some houses west of Racine/Kenosha area inialated. I got home to Maggie poop and pee in basement. She needs to be medicated during thunder storms and fireworks. So got that cleaned up, dogs all fed, and Maggie was laying on her back all stretched out on the couch when I noticed a big lump on her tummy. Sure enough, a hard lump. I called my ex, who picked her up after work at midnight and called got her into vet this AM. It's just a fatty tumor doc said. We are to keep an eye on it for now. Scares me cuz she's been coughing over a month now, just like Tracker did when he had cancer. But doc said her chest sounds clear, heart is pumping just fine. Could just be dry in the house...so I bought her a humidifier at noon today. The stuff we do for our dogs hey? We are down to three dogs for adoption. Unreal. But it's a good thing! |

When I say 'it never ends' in rescue, I mean it with all my heart...when you do rescue it COMSUMES your every waking moment. So I get this email couple weeks ago from an approved adopter, who took a peek at Siegfried, and was appauled by how thin he was! I said WHAT??? I saw him the day we got him and three others from shelter, yes, he was thin, but I have photos, and he didn't look all that bad! So I had fosters send me new pix, and MY GOD, i COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES... So I told foster home to get fecal in immediately, three days later they did. He was negative for intestinal parasites. Well, what the heck? So I went to get him on Sat. Figured maybe if he came to my house, where I fatten dogs up well, all would be good, plus I have my rescue vets who offer discounts closer to me then the fosters. Well, I walked in their house about noon Sat, and it was filthy, dirty dishes all over, you had to shuffle thru toys and stuff all over the floors everywhere, to get anywhere. Foster mom was sleeping, dad had a baby on the kitchen table, changing one stinky diaper, which he just dropped to the kitchen floor....All the dogs were filthy, they were in their crates, and the crates were muddy, and smelly, the dogs are not managable, cannot walk on a leash, rarely go for car rides, are very squirrelly and VERY thin. So I grabbed Sieggie and left, but in my mind I kept thinking about the ones I left behind. They adopted three from us. So I got Sieggie home, had to scrub his crate for 45 mins to get the mud and stink out; then got him in the bath tub, took twice to get the filth off him, scrub his collar, his ears were black with wax...and sore, he almost bit me cleaning them, great ear infection.....and he stunk of boy pee, everywhere he went. His nails were long and curled under, not potty trained...made me wonder what the foster home has been up to? So I stewed and I waited till their vet office opened, and called to see if the other dogs were up to date on shots, and they were negligant. I assumed as much....they are a nice family, with their hearts probably in the right place, but they have five little kids, with another on the way. They love animals, but they are not taking care of them, to my satisfaction. So the board of directors discussed the situation, and we decided to pull the rest of our dogs. That made them mad! I didn't really care, I had a statement to make: THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE if you foster OR adopt from WGSPR! So my secretary and I went to pick the dogs up last night, and on the way there, our VP called, and the three outta four of us board members decided if the oldest dog looked better then the two younger ones did, she could stay. I think they can handle keeping up with one dog, but certainly not four! I about lost it when I hugged the foster mom and told her how sorry I was, but that I felt this was in everyone's best interest. Was a late night, by the time we got home and settled the dogs in, I kept one, and my secretary took the other home. So I have five all the sudden now... I got Sieggie to vet last night quick, before we went to confiscate our dogs, and he DOES have ear infection and had urinary tract infection. $131- later...urgh. So the moral of this story is FOLLOW UP IS KEY. I don't care if it's your foster homes, or your adopters. Get in there, look the situation over, don't believe they are paying attention at all times. Because like everyone else, they can become overwhelmed, and NEGLECT happens. This is not how I want my rescue run. So we took our dogs back, end of this saga... I'm so tired today I could fall asleep at my desk. And my heart feels sad for their loss, but happy for those two (well, three, if you count Sieggie) dogs to be in a place now where they will get the attention they need.

| If you love animals you take care of them. I cannot imagine anyone having enough energy to take care of 5 kids and 4 dogs. |

As the days/night pass, we are discovering even more, of course. To these folks I think the dogs merely existed. They cannot prove that rabies shot for Lucy. She is blaming the vet for loosing records, I do not believe that. That vet facility was ever so helpful to me, provided everything they had on that one dog. They were happy we pulled our dogs! So that in itself, tells me alot. They are telling me they want her back. I told them over my dead body. I'm still cleaning the filth outta her ears. Yesterday outfitted her with a sparkling new collar and leash, and got Luce a doggie bed of her own, she just loves. Sieggie is picking up speed with the antibiotics, and crapped all over my floor and peed last night. Thank you stink! Of course, he had to do it right infront of a new adopter returning a crate, urgh. He is a real handful. He is in my opinion, a below zero in the training dept. He looks straight thru you, does not pay attention at all to anything. He tried to take 70 lb Jim on last night, male stance, on hind legs, SO the little dirtbag got collared to time out in his crate! It is killing my body to collar him everywhere to get him with the routine. Gotta home visit for one SAT AM. Good....get, get, get... got two calls last night about dogs needing to come in, one is completely hunt trained, just missing a couple toe nails from being frost bitten as a pup. No biggie, ain't stopping him any... nice breeding. So off I go.... |

| I'm gonna have to double my blood pressue pills to keep up with Sieggie! He is constantly on the go, or guarding his stuff or peeing on something, or looking for a place to take a stinky dump. He does not comprehend OUTSIDE potty at all, I have to keep ushering him to the door, and he's a crap eater, fresh juicy crap is the best, URGH. My nice calm pack is in total disarray now. I hope I can get him up to snuff quickly. But he seems just plain brain dead. Puppies, @##$%^$%^&%^&* |

Sunday night just as the Packers were loosing, my old pointer female, Maggie had a grand mall seizure! Scared the bejesus outta me! That never happened before. So she may have had another during the night and a third at 6AM. I loaded her up and dropped her for a day of observation at the vet. Blood tests came back fine. But her heart is beating way too fast, so they did EKG too. Sent us home with low dose phenol, which she's on now. No further siezures. If EKG comes back with a heart condition, then we take her off phenol and put her on heart meds. So we'll find out today.
Had really nice approved folks come see Sieggie last night, and they are coming to get him Friday PM. Sieggie is really coming around, but I still do not trust him with potty in the house, so gave them tips on what I'd do. He is still a puppy afterall.
Remember my Budbud from last Xmas? His real name is Ace...well Ace was in emergency yesterday too, his stomach was all bloated, and he was puking yellow. So the vet office called me for his records, cuz they said either a severe case of heartworm, which I KNOW he aint' got, my guts say cancer. So now we wait it out. He is only 3-4 yrs old, they have only had him a year. And today I have to go say good bye to my Auntie June, you'd love her obit, starts out by saying Grandma June went to be with her dogs! That's what I want mine to say.
I feel so low, I want to crawl in a hole and die again. On Sunday will be a year since Tracker left already. Combine that with everything else, and violla....down in dumpers. But life does go on, I'm working a ride out for Max for tomorrow, to get him to safety from shelter.

No further evidence of seizures with Maggie, however her heart is not beating regularily, which could have caused the seizure. So we'll keep her on phenol for a month, then retest her levels. She pooped all over my house yesterday, sheesh. Ace, my Bud-Bud, was diagnosed with advanced LYMES!! He was in kidney failure, so we'll see if the antibiotics can pull him outta this, but from what I read, once they are in kidney failure, it's generally a death sentance. Adopter is taking him back to vet Sat for a look see. We zipped Morgan and Lucy to the vet this am for update on shots so they can go home, have lookers at both. I'm nervous that we'll have no dogs to show at Feb 2nd BIG Pet expo! As fast as they come in, they go back out. That's all for now. |

No further seizures for Maggie that I can tell. Thankfully! Ace had to go in for blood test today to check on if anitbiotics for Lymes are working. Mary says he has spunk again, is eating, his bloated tummy is going down. Maybe he WILL make it afterall, but I wonder what long term effects will be? Three out the door last week, one came in Sunday, one more coming in this Sat...and Sat is our BIG SHOW. I'm far from ready! gotta get... |

DID have Morgan...she went home Sat...so did Lucy! Got Alabama Brett in yesterday, who is sick, well... as a dog with kennel cough, he's also heartworm pos, and they were not able to alter him with him being so sick. So thus begins my month long project called Brett. The SHOW Sat was excellent, non-stop people and action all day long; next year we HAVE TO GET two side by side booths for more space! Our recall demo went fine. Pix on website: www.wgspr.com
Working on getting two in from Iowa shelters this weekend, as long as Wi shelters are clean. I have wanna be adopters coming outta my ears! So have to get some "inventory" in, tehe. Rock on.... |

| Unfortunately not. Female is coming from Nevada, IA, male from Vinton, IA. Will hit Wi border Sat afternoon, then I gotta get them all into foster care. Had to go get more antibiotics for Alabama Brett and his horrible kennel cough today. After he gets thru that, then he can be heartworm treated, then neutered. He moves to my foster that helps keep the heartworm treated dogs quiet, until they can go home, on 2/16. Then I have Cody moving in for doggie sitting the following week. I think Brett has fleas too, can't see em, but the way he chews on himself, he's getting in the tub tonight, and picked up Frontline. That Vicks plug in thing sure helps him breathe easier. I heard tornadoes took out parts of Alabama after we got him out. So he got out just in time. He'll be a costly dog when done, but well worth it I'm sure. |
