First things first, new photos have been posted.  :-)    http://web.me.com/msalyers/GSP_Rescue/Home.html

Nine GSPs left MO yesterday morning, headed for TX. The group stopped for the night in Arkansas, where two will remain for foster care. I’ll send updates and photos as they arrive.

Seven GSPs will be transported this coming Thursday night, into Saturday morning, to our Eastern GSP Rescue Group and the Mid-Atlantic GSP Rescue. We expected more, but there have been so many applications locally in MO, there isn’t a need to transport more dogs at this time.

The media has been wonderful in providing coverage, but not necessarily in getting the facts straight. For example, they showed up to shoot some video and do some interviews. The gals with Midwest PAWS said they’d be accepting adoption applications over the weekend, at the adoption center/kennel. Well, the reporter seemed to misunderstand, so it was broadcast that they were having an adoption event on Saturday, so close to 300 people showed up, expecting to take a dog home with them. It became a little difficult to explain the process of adoption to everyone, but with a lot of volunteer help, they managed to control the crowd, and control expectations.  :-)

The number of qualified adoption applications has been overwhelming, so it looks like most of these deserving GSPs will find loving homes, not too far from their current foster homes.

Great news all around.

That is wonderful! Once they are set, let's turn our efforts to helping all the poor GSPs surrendered by owners who have lost their homes. :)

Rest assured that the New England, NJ, PA, NY, Mid-Atlantic (to name just the most immediate East Coast GSP rescue groups) and other GSP rescue groups work 365 days per year helping GSPs in need. None of them have stopped helping local dogs while this is going on.

I was impressed with GSP rescue nationally and in all the regions before, but the way everyone pulled together so fast to help in a crisis was equally impressive. If I could I would love to foster, but I know that if they came into my home I would be lost, so I try to help with donations and in other ways as I truly do love this breed.  I also greatly admire those who do the fostering and heavy lifting in the rescue world.  There is a special place in heaven for all of you.

Thank you!!

Eleanor - I volunteer for GSP Rescue, so I know how hard they work year-round, I was just expressing a hope that we could get as many non-rescue people excited about the everyday issues facing homeless dogs.
