We worked the GSPCA National Specialty show this weekend in WI.  WOW, I've never died and been in shorthair heaven like that before!  Was a sight to see.  I've never been to a conformation show.  Very different then my hunt background.  Sat, we did not stick around too long, was too busy, too many people, no table for rescue.  But they were still in the middle of raffle prizes everywhere, so we finally got a table set up area on Sunday.  Then it was big time merchandise sales!  I did haul Rainee with.  And took her inside on Sunday.  She did amazingly very well with people touching her and handling her.  She still has the loose stool.  Three weeks of burger and rice, one day she gets a bit stiffer, but the next it's back to liquid.  She is not dehydrated. So I called the vet this AM and even tho her stool sample was neg, we're gonna treat her for giuardia (sic) just incase.  Purina left us all their left overs, and if I have to try taking her off lamb/rice puppy food, now is my chance, there is that good Purina allergy food, chicken barley rice business in there, to test her out on.  Had one of my volunteers from Chicago area come up to see Axle this weekend.  They will probably take him Memorial weekend.  Will, our lemonhead went home last week.  Our hunt trainer took in old boy, Merkel this weekend.  So we have just a few dogs for adoption at this point.  Everyone wants time off, so now is the time I suppose.   My mouth is healing up really nicely, no issues, thankfully.  That's it for now, till next episode...tehe.

Lisa my favorite recipe for serious runs that won't stop with no parasite is 1/2 white potato 1/2 sweet potato a slice of leek and some turnip all boiled together and then cooled and fed to the dog. It is a miracle, it's a pain in the butt to make and the shorthairs do tend to lose weight if on it any length but it works far better than rice/burger. My Simon has the worst tummy as a pup and I was so frustrated when the Z/D food stopped helping. I put him on the potato until he was solid (he did lose some weight on just potatoes) then SLOWLY handfulls at a time I moved him back to kibble. His system needed to totally relax in order to handle kibble. We've been years out and never had a problem since and he's finally at an ideal weight :)

My dogs LOVE sweet pototo and duck food from Dick Van Patten's food line. So I'll give the the rest of this rice and burger and the giardia treatment a chance first, if not, I'll be asking for your recipe! 1/2 of it is probably because she inhales her food, the special 'slow down bowl' works some.... but I seriously need this dog to put some weight on pretty soon here. And picking up liquid squirts in the yard is more like just hosing it down! She IS holding it all day now, but I still gotta get her more solid before she can get adopted.

Glad that she can hold it in the house at any rate.
One night Ranger had diarrhea and was acting kind of funny at bedtime. Next thing I heard his nails clicking on the bathroom floor. Strange, I thought, since he never goes in there unless I'm in there. I got up to check, and here he'd had diarrhea on the vinyl floor in there (plus some on the carpet outside the door). It was almost as if he knew he'd better get to the bathroom!

Hi Rangerdanger mom! Still in for the parade June 1st? Well, got Rainee on meds now to see if possible giardia...almost had formation last night, but this AM, was back to liquids... URGH. I gotta solid her up before I leave her in baby sitter's care end of the month for my road trip north! Starting to ween her off rice and burger and onto Purina Select, turkey/barley food. It's sorta fun bringing her to work with me every day, cuz every day we find a new field to walk...or shall I say, I walk, she spins around me! Can't get her to walk a straight line yet. She has no interest in bird that I can tell.

Well, Rainee's more like fluff area now, slight formation, thankfully... I have a LOOKER!! So trying to work out a meeting between their special needs male and Rainee soon. She needs to find her own home to get situated. Not that I don't mind her being around, she's really come a long way! She forces me to walk over my lunch hour, which isn't so bad for me either! Will keep you posted...

I am sooo far behind on spring yard clean up, so even tho I have a packed Sat thus far, Sunday, other then redoing website (pulling dogs off...), I have to work!  Sat starts out taking my own dog, Jim to the vet for second lymes booster, from there we head to Will's new house to drop him off our starter (3) pack of heartguard+, from there to our canvas guy, from there to foster mom for Axle's house to finally meet our Chicagoland volunteers who may be taking Axle home with them, and from there to home visit and meeting with Rainee's prospective adopters.  After all that, I can finally head home on Sat.  Last night, Rainee was so funny!  She found our big horse ball, I think Maggie was the one that used to play with it....anyhow, she was circling right in the yard, round and round, with the handle of the ball in her mouth, proudly prancing around with her new find...I took pix to send to her lookers.  And FINALLY I have solidish formation of poop!  She's totally off the burger/rice, and on that turkey/barley food.  She does tolerate greenies and there is a new one by Milkbone, called Naturals, she loves those, and plain rawhides seem to be going good for her too, which is good, cuz she will chew on them all night long, if she can...  So we'll see how that goes.  Buckley had his potential adopter look at him last night, I have not checked my emails yet to see if she took him home.  And today, I'm still stewing over a Dogs Deserve Better Rep, who gotta GSP owner surrender, and took it telling me I could find the dog a home.  Well, next thing ya know she wants to keep her.  So I called off all my lookers for this young female, and lost some in the process!  Anyhow, next thing ya know the dog is listed on Petfinder!  So I asked her what the heck?  She said the dog would not be a hunter, didn't know anything, didn't know sit, counter surfed, whatever, give her to me so we can fix her up I said....but NO...now she wants us to send adopters directly to her!  Then I had my partner with Northern WI GSP Rescue call her yesterday, see what the scoop is, and the DDB vol told her a bunch of untruths about my rescue!  Well, THAT'S IT!  War is on.  Did she really think it all would not circle right back to me?  If she had questions, why didn't she ask ME?  This is the second DDB vol that messed with me, I'm beginning to wonder if they are all collectors?  Anyhow...so the rescue world goes...

Rain-Rain stayed with GSP Connor Sat afternoon!  They are gonna give her a spin for a week, but my bet is Rainee is home!  Had a busy weekend, then yesterday my back went out, urgh...just the stupid discs again, but I had so much manual bull labor planned for myself this coming Memorial weekend, and now I know I gotta be really careful about it...move like a turtle instead of lightening speed...  We have zero dogs for adoption as of Sat!  Axle's folks are coming to get him next Monday I think....I am pulling a red/white pointer female outta Rockford, IL tonight, the transport just all fell together and we home visited a family yesterday really interested in Dixie...so she may even be home by the weekend, cuz I got lucky to have the shelter do her vet work before she leaves...so I'll have her in my hands before lunch tomorrow, then I can run her in one of my secret fields and see what I have there... Asked Kim in Michigan to find me a nice male and get him over to the border and I have a foster home standing by...and an adopter I home checked on Good Friday!  So that's what's shakin today...

I'll trade ya! I have 5 and minimal interest. Part of it is my fault I GOTTA get out more but we're trying to sell our house and move and I've just been a bit lax lately. I did a visit with my newest 4 year old girl Saturday but it didn't seem a fit and she wasn't helping she was being a total space cadet! Congrats on all the great placements!

Great job Lisa. It has to give you a great sense of satisfaction to know that you have more people available than dogs.

Not so; we are not doggie head hunters.  It gives me great satisfaction to know that between three GSP rescues, finally, in Wisconsin, we can clean WI shelters of our breed, and extend ourselves to help others in other surrounding states as needed!   That was my plan.

I'm sorry if I phrased that badly. I think it is wonderful that you have done such a great job that there are not a lot of GSPs there without homes.

No biggie!  I was on the phone with Michigan Rescue last night, and Kim picked out two nice GSPs to send over the state lines.  My board of directors maybe not so happy with me now, cuz we are trying to make sure dogs are at least vaccinated before leaving, and the shelter these two came from only did the min.  But I do have a couple fosters willing to take dogs and adopters coming out my ears...so why not rescue a couple and help our buds over there?  I'm prepared to grab pointer chick, Dixie today when she gets dropped at my work.  I will drop her at her foster home after work, then head home to my own dogs.  We have a family that wants to meet Dixie this weekend, if all her vet work is in order...and I think it is...  off I go!

Hey Beth!  Do you use Fruitport Vet?  They just gouged my eyes out for the Muskegan two; for a couple of shots and dewormer and health certificates!    I got a whopping 15% off!  URGH.  And I have a shelter in IL with a "french pointer" to help, AND, when it rains it pours...gotta email this AM from a correctional officer in northern WI that his clients have 10 dogs, bunches of cats and birds, and they can legally only have two dogs!  So eight of their dogs must be out by tomorrow, or the sheriff will remove them. Six are GSPs!  So I told the correction officer to have his clients contact me if they wish to surrender some purebred GSPs, and have an all out call for more foster help now, incase they do.  Also called Northern WI GSP Rescue to get the outdoor kennels ready as well for temp holding.  We'll have dogs for adoption again very soon!

I gotta idea, how about you and Alice hook up and start a Northern MN Rescue?  Isn't very often we pull dogs from way up there, because transport to Milwaukee is a weekend fiasco...but with more help, MAYBE???

We got the Michigan two in Sunday, nice boys, potty trained and all.  Both are sick with kennel cough however.  Dixie went home this weekend already!  This weekend, we are pulling a male outta Mason City, Iowa and what the shelter is calling a French Pointer male outta Kane Co IL.  Axle goes home finally, and I head north for Eleva Broiler Festival (WGSPR is partaking of the 50th anniversary parade on Sunday!).  I ordered James a back pack so he can haul our stuff!  Gotta make that boy work it!  There is one nice looking female in Wisconsin shelter after this weekend, I have pulled several dogs from them before, so have an email into them, see if they need help too?  Never ends...

OHHH Lisa, you are trying to get me in trouble with Ronnie, tehe! never seems to be too many GSPs around here. Thought I had a line on a couple 6 month old pups but the lady never got back to me. Thought that someone would adopt them fast, they were AKC.

My bad?  tehe....well, if the need is not too great, you would not really tick Ron off very often...  you gotta tell him just the right way, start with "I have a new protoge for ya".  Gets men all the time!  A challenge they cannot pass up!

Well, overnight all my foster homes are full!  We are pulling that French Pointer outta IL shelter this weekend, and Mason City IA Cooper GSP with the tail, AND a 5 mo old male GSP puppy, very scared at a Madison WI shelter.  I'll be up north, but down here, everyone will be grabbing new dogs!

Michigan Josh ended up at vet yesterday, has pneumonia.
